Dixons Carphone a prominent United Kindgdom-based electronics retailer has experienced huge data breach, with hackers accessing millions of customer payment-cards and 1.2 million personal data records including names, addresses and email addresses. A statement released by the company said “no evidence†that any fraudulent activity taking place as a result of the breach. Dixons Carphone’s CEO Alex Baldock mentioned “We are extremely disappointed for any upset this may cause. The protection of our data has to be at the heart of our business, and we’ve fallen short here.†Considering the size of the breach (5.9 m) it makes one of the biggest breaches involving a major telecommunication and electrical retailer and services company in UK. The incident happened just weeks after the GDPR data-protection legislation became effective. At the moment it is not confirmed how the breach happened and who takes responsibility for it. Back in 2015 the company had another incident where bank data of millions of Carphone Warehouse customers was breached by hackers.
